WRTV-TV reports the DNR and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management inspected the northern shoreline of Geist Reservoir on Tuesday and found 10 to 15 dead redear sunfish. The agency said in a statement Wednesday the deaths have the "appearances of a small, natural die-off of some sunfish species." Looking forward to a fantastic year, and so is Zakk.INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the deaths of fish in Geist Reservoir appear to be natural. This time last year there was still ice on the lakes. Got lots of cobwebs blown out of the boat. I manage a couple small fish, a bass and a crappie. Thats how it goes with the first trip of year. I should have check it first and probably would have, had my fish finder not temporarily disabled. The other end of the lake where I started was much warmer. It catches everything and it really a nice review. Not seeing many fish, i suspect they were in main lake, in the wind! I fired up the small motor and begin trolling new areas of the lake and recording the sonar to view later on the computer. I moved into a sheltered area and the water temp up to 44. White caps were on main lake and the boat was almost impossible to control. It felt good to have the boat on plane again. Luckily I still had the previous version and reloaded it. My upgrade for my main humminbird did not take for some reason. I like it.įorgot my boat bumpers! always something on first trip.īoth motors fire right up and run like a sewing machine. Boat backs off trailer, anchor lock holds it, I park trailer and then use remote to guide boat to dock. Guy at the dock was watching me and he says that is slickest thing he had ever seen. Launch the boat by myself, the Ulterra motor makes it a breeze if you remember to turn it on, unfasten the lock and have the remote around your neck. I get to lake and realize I did not put my DNR lake permit on. Back up to boat, oh yeah, dont forget to raise that motor! Oh yeah, dont forget those life jackets! Oh yeah, check the tire pressure check. I scrambled to get gear in the boat, rods check, minnow bucket check, tackle check, batteries check, remotes check, net check, coffee check, water check, snacks check. Got up early, sunshine and warm temp in the forecast. Me, Charlie in the middle and Steve with some nice Crappie Throw in a few small catfish and we will have a big fish fry in the making. We had 25 crappie at the end of our day, the quality of the fish was very nice. We quit early because we run out of minnows, I had a jig on most of the day with one of my rods with various colors but only managed one crappie on the jig. We caught a lot of White Bass but they were all small. The wind was slight today unlike yesterday. We were catching some really nice crappie on minnows. But we have always managed to share summer vacations together. We have not fished Indiana water together since high school. My brother Charlie was in town for a visit from Colorado and he was up for some fishing. Here is a shot of dinner from Geist Reservoir.Īfter our Geist Reservoir trip yesterday we decided to fish Morse today. Not a lot of fish today but some nice bass. Deb seemed to be doing the catching and Steve and I were there to learn today. A bonus was the really nice Yellow Bass that would really put a bend in those crappie rods. Our target fish were running very small with only one keeper put in the boat. Steve, Deb and I headed out in the morning after daylight. Our target today was perch but with the water temps still at 60 I wondered. Was pretty breezy today but my Ulterra motor would hold anchor lock with no problem. This is unreal, fishing with a t shirt on Nov 1.
